The fleet of Earth ships
The movie 'Starship Troopers' was based on the classic science-fiction novel written by Robert A. Henlein. The screenplay to the movie was written by Ed Neumeier who opted out of using the element of the powered armour used by the Infantry. The suits were opted out as the realisation of them was too expensive to create and would have looked stupid using CGI'd humans wearing the armour.
An Mobile Infantry member being killed by a Hopper Bug
The movie cost $100 million US, and took 2 years to complete. Extensive CGI was used throughout to create the Arachnids, or "Bugs", from the planet Klendathu, ranging from small Bugs that look like cockroaches to the Brain Bug. The different types of Bugs are as follows - the Warrior Bugs, Hopper Bugs, Tanker Bugs and the Brain Bug. The Warrior Bugs design was based on spiders and wasps with the addition of World War II Afrika Corps style camoflage. The Warrior Bugs were the most common Bugs seen, including 1 scene with over 2000 of them running towards a fortress where the Infrantry have barricaded themselved in. The Hopper Bugs were the type that could fly and the addition of chopping people's heads off as they flew. The largest Bugs were the Tanker Bugs which spat out flames and also could bite people to death, including the character of Rasczak who has his legs bitten off by a Tanker Bug. The Brain Bug has the most gruesome addition of a tube that stabs into people's heads and sucks out their brains.
